PME200Rated Capacity Indicator

Prolec distributor invests in PME200 to ensure safe lifting for its Singaporean customers.

In May 2019, a Singapore-based Kobelco dealer approached Prolec to purchase forty PME200 RCI (Rated Capacity Indicator) systems for its range of excavators. While lifting safety systems are mandatory in the region, this decision was mainly driven by the company’s policy to equip all of its machines with high-end safety equipment before sale.

The PME200 range consists of Rated Capacity Indicators (RCI) designed to assist your machines to meet the LOLER requirements for safe lifting. In addition to the RCI, the PME200 also includes a warning system. Optional extras include a height limiter and a motion cut on overload – both of which offer your machines and infrastructure further protection from damage.

As the Ministry of Manpower’s 2018 report(1) named construction as responsible for most worksite injuries of any sector (21%), improving safety has become a focal point for the Singaporean industry. Singapore is a densely populated and heavily built-up location, therefore the need for operations to be carried out safely nearby infrastructure and the passing public is particularly important. Responding to this, the distributor's machines are fitted with a safety system and a fire extinguisher as standard to maximise the safety of their excavators.

Preventing excavators from lifting more than their safe working load, the company were drawn to Prolec’s PME200 solution to gain a competitive advantage in their marketplace. With its simple interface, the system allows customers to comply with Singapore's regulations while offering hassle-free protection from the risks of construction.

Following the order’s swift delivery, Prolec travelled to Singapore and met with the company’s team. Throughout the visit, Prolec were on-hand to answer questions, listen to feedback, and discuss how it can help the team to answer the Singaporean market’s increasing safety demands.

Having been Prolec’s distributor in the region from 1995 onwards, the company has expressed its positive experience with the team’s service and support, particularly appreciating Prolec’s regular visits to distributors worldwide. Since the visit, the company has recommended Prolec’s safety systems to an industry partner located in Hong Kong.

The distributor is now looking to upgrade their existing systems after learning that PME200 has the option to include height limiting. In addition to ensuring machine stability, this will protect its customers from overhead hazards such as power lines and bridges. Building on its long-standing partnership with Prolec, the company are keen to continue this collaboration as it expands its operations.
